Rick Hanson is a clinical psychologist and acclaimed author with an expertise in the connection between the brain and emotional and psychological health. Influenced by Buddhist psychology, he is most interested in how the various brain systems foster or obstruct certain modes of reactivity, some of which are especially problematic in how we attempt to manage the stress of contemporary life. In the next virtual meeting of the Men’s Group Seminar on Saturday, October 2, 2021 (10:15 to 11:30 AM), an introduction to Hanson’s ideas will occur. Two of his most substantial talks (“The Not-Craving Brain” and “The Neurology of Awakening”) will be our focus. Implications of Hanson’s perspective on the challenges men face in numerous domains of modern life will be considered.
