A neuroendocrinologist by training, Robert Sapolsky, Ph.D. began his career studying the social behavior of baboons in Kenya. He eventually linked this ongoing field work to understanding the stress-response cycle in humans and its relationship to disease. He has authored many important books, including Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers, that provide an evolutionary perspective on stress and its implications for modern living. In the “Psychology of Stress,” he defines what is meant by stress and the stress response. In a more extensive podcast interview conducted by Peter Attia, M.D., Sapolsky explores many factors influencing, and influenced by, stress including social hierarchy, memory, emotional stress, empathy, and illness. In the next virtual meeting of the Men’s Group Seminar on Saturday, November 20, 2021 (10:15 to 11:30 AM), we will explore the work of Robert Sapolsky.
