The Men’s Group Seminar: Understanding Habits

Jan 9, 2022 | Events

If you really think about it, habits organize most of our lives. Yet, for many people, a sense of powerlessness surrounds habits – we typically have troubling breaking “bad” habits and even more difficulty generating new positive habits. The psychology and neurology of habit formation and habit breaking are relatively recent subjects of scientific investigation. Research has identified a common structure to habits consisting of, among other factors, cues, cravings, and rewards that create a “habit loop.” The good news is that these loops can be interrupted and altered, creating new pathways for change and self-improvement. In the next virtual meeting of the Men’s Group Seminar on Saturday, January 15, 2022 (10:15 to 11:30 AM), we will explore what is currently known about habits. We will focus our attention on NPR’s interview of Charles Duhigg, author of The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business;  Jeremy Godwin’s podcast that describes how to change habits; and Stephanie Power’s comprehensive article “The Science of Habits.”
